    The CRNA practices both autonomously and in collaboration with a care team and others in a clinic setting to deliver high-quality and safe patient care. They will administer anesthesia, monitor patient’s vital signs, and oversee patient recovery from anesthesia. The CRNA will assist the organization’s pain management physicians and other members of the care team.

    Responsibilities:

    • Selects, prepares, or uses equipment, monitors, supplies, or drugs for the administration of anesthetics.
    • Administers anesthetics.
    • Performs pre-anesthetic screenings including physical evaluations and patient interviews, and documents results. Monitors patients’ responses including skin color, pupil dilation, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, and ventilation during noninvasive techniques.
    • Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering emergency fluids or drugs, or using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
    • Develops anesthesia care plans.
    • Obtains informed consent from patients for anesthesia procedures.
    • Assess patients’ medical histories to predict anesthesia response.
    • Performs or manages regional anesthetic techniques such as local, spinal, epidural, caudal, nerve blocks and intravenous blocks.
    • Evaluates patients’ post-surgical or post-anesthesia responses, taking appropriate corrective actions or requesting consultation if complications occur. Administers post-anesthesia medications or fluids to support patients’ cardiovascular systems.
    • Discharges patients from post-anesthesia care.
    • Assist with maintaining crash cart.
    • Assist in mock code drills for clinic staff.
    • Reads literature, talks with colleagues, and participates in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in nursing.

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Ability to perform clinically as a nurse anesthetist in a clinic setting.
    • Must demonstrate good judgment and the ability to respond appropriately to stressful conditions and situations.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively collaborate with various clinical and non-clinical staff.
    • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients in pain.
    • Knowledge of infection prevention and control techniques.
    • Demonstrated patient care skills, passion to provide care and express empathy to patients in pain.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and confidential patient records.
    • Commitment to remain up to date with the latest advances in the anesthesia and pain management field including the introduction of new techniques.
    • Education/Experience:
    • Current active state licensure as a CRNA and complies with any applicable state statutory and regulatory requirements concerning CRNAs.
    • Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor.
    • Current certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
    • Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer for the limits required by the organization or state.
    • Must maintain active ACLS/BLS certification
    • Previous pain management experience preferred.
